Harsh truth I wish I had known 16 years ago when I started my career.

Harsh truth I wish I had known 16 years ago when I started my career:

Diversity is as much about expertise as it is about inclusion.

I was working on an Asian cookbook, when I realized we didn’t have a single Asian person on the team to show us how chopsticks are supposed to be placed correctly!

Without it, we risked misrepresenting cultural elements that would damage our credibility.

Think about it….

How often do homogeneous teams limit perspectives, stagnate creativity, and hinder better outcomes?

Are we leaving opportunities on the table by not embracing diversity?

After a decade as a photo director and coach, I know how critical it is to

- Assess what’s missing

- Challenge the status quo in hiring

- Take small actions that make a difference.

A diverse team brings fresh ideas to the table. But it starts with each of us.

And this week, I am talking all about diversity with Diane Diaz on Speaking Your Brand.
